Nordic Highway

Nordic Highway presents the most interesting names of the modern folk music from Finland, Sweden and Norway and takes them on a tour together

Good news for the fans of modern folk music, Nordic noir and strong song-writing! Nordic Highway tour concept has gathered together three acclaimed folk artists from Finland, Sweden and Norway and takes them on tour. The chosen groups – Pekko Käppi & K.H.H.L (FI), Långbacka/ Bådagård (SE) and Jørgen Sandvik (NO) will play all together six concerts in Finland, Sweden and Norway at the beginning of October 4.-13.10.

The Finnish Neo-Folk artist PEKKO KÄPPI & K:H:H:L has attracted very different kinds of audiences and performed from indie to folklore events as well as from Finland’s biggest metal music festival to world music festivals all around the world. The trio’s music has elements of blues, rock and experimental archaic chaos, colliding rhythms and psychedelic sights creating. The frontman Pekko Käppi plays jouhikko, the ancient Finnish-Karelian string instrument, and the bass and guitars are not usual instruments either but made of cigar boxes.

Långbacka/Bådagård is a pop-folk duo from Sweden whose music has been described as if “Regina Spektor had moved to the Scandinavian mountains and learned how to play the violin.” The duo’s strong voices, poetic lyrics with hidden social criticism combined with violins, percussions and live electronics create a musical landscape that is Nordic Noir at its best. They say that if you like Ane Brun, First Aid Kit or Susanne Sundfør, you are most likely bound to like this.

Jørgens Sandvik is best known as the guitar player, singer and composer of the Norwegian folk rock band Real Ones. The band has gained an exceptional reputation as one of the best live bands of Norway and won several  Spellemenn-awards (Norwegian grammy). Sandvik released his first solo album Permanent Vacation in March 2018, and performs with a guitar and his deep blues-voice.

Nordic Highway is a new tour concept aiming to help the Nordic artists find new audiences in their neighbour countries, and at the same time connecting the clubs and contributing them to collaborate with each other. Behind the idea are originally three companies and a team of nordic culture professionals: Marjatta & Kaisa – maetka.fi / Riitta Huttunen, Sirpa Lahti (FIN) , MTI production / Hilda Sandgren, Bjørn Bunes (SWE) and Sgt. Elephant / Sigurd Reinton (NO).
The tour 2018 is produced by MTI and Maetka with the support of Nordisk kulturfond.

“There’s been a lot talk about the lack of collaboration between the nordic clubs and the challengies to tour in the neighbour countries all though the distances are shorter. On the other hand we want to represent the nordic artists to the new local audiences. We hope that in the future this can be continuos”  says Sirpa Lahti, one of the producers behind the tour.
